A dialysis unit enhances Bouizakarne Prison.

The General Delegate for Prison Administration and Reintegration, accompanied by using the Wali of the Guelmim-Oued Noun area and the Governor of Guelmim province, inaugurated a dialysis unit for inmates with chronic kidney failure at the neighborhood prison in Bouizakarne.

The occasion was attended by the President of the Guelmim-Oued Noun area, the General Coordinator of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Prisoners, the President of the “Amal” Foundation for Kidney Failure Patients, at the side of many elected officials, dignitaries, and representatives from public sectors and civil society institutions.

According to a declaration from the General Delegation for Prison Administration, this unit is the 7th of its kind in jail institutions. Six different units have been inaugurated within the neighborhood prisons of Beni Mellal, Ait Melloul 2, Al Oudaia (Marrakech), Nador, Ras El Ma (Fez), and Laayoune.

The statement, received by Hespress, added that “the establishment of these units falls within the framework of the agreement signed on March 20, 2019, between the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the National Initiative for Human Development, the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Prisoners, and the ‘Amal’ Foundation for Kidney Failure Patients. This agreement aims to enhance inmates’ access to medical services within prison institutions by creating regional units.” It noted that “these seven units are in addition to the first dialysis unit at the local Ain Sebaa prison, inaugurated by King Mohammed VI in 2011.”

It is worth mentioning that the seven newly established units in prison institutions have, to date, facilitated 6,306 dialysis sessions for the benefit of 78 inmates.
