Amman Municipality Plans to Extend Rapid Bus Service Hours to Midnight

Riyad Al-Kharabsheh, the Executive Director of Transport and Projects at the Greater Amman Municipality, announced that the Municipality has recently completed a study on extending the operating hours of the rapid bus service to midnight.

Al-Kharabsheh explained that many businesses close at 10 PM, prompting the study on the feasibility of extending the rapid bus service hours. The technical committees have finished the study, but a final decision has not yet been made.

He also mentioned that the rapid bus service comprises five main routes, transporting a total of 80,000 passengers daily in Amman and Zarqa. Since the start of the trial operation, the service has transported nearly 25 million passengers.

Al-Kharabsheh noted that public transport lines need the installation of 5,000 waiting shelters, especially on feeder routes to the rapid bus service.

The Greater Amman Municipality recently announced the commencement of operations at the “Polytechnic Bridge” rapid bus station. The station is now officially operational, staffed with administrative and technical personnel, as well as security and protection officers. The station is fully functional and serves the university areas and surrounding regions.

Since its operation began in mid-May, over a million passengers have used the rapid bus route between Amman and Zarqa.
