On Saturday, the Royal Gendarmerie in Moulay Abdallah Amghar, supported by territorial units from the El Jadida region, successfully dismantled a secret distillery producing the alcoholic beverage known as “Mahia.”
Sources from El Jadida informed Hespress that the security measures implemented by the Royal Gendarmerie in Doukkala’s capital to ensure the safety of the Moulay Abdallah Amghar Festival and protect citizens and their property led to the discovery of this illegal distillery in Douar El Ghsban, not far from the festival site.
The same sources revealed that the gendarmerie utilized trained dogs, drones, and surveillance cameras in their preemptive operations. This led to the seizure of nearly 10 tons of “Mahia,” which had been prepared in barrels for sale during the weekend, coinciding with the influx of visitors to the festival. Two individuals suspected of being involved with the seized alcohol were also arrested.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered the judicial police to confiscate all materials and equipment used in the production process and place the two suspects in custody, pending the ongoing preliminary investigation, before they are presented to the appropriate authority for further legal action.
